Active Living Ramsey Communities! Coalition
Working to bring about and sustain changes in design, transportation, & public/private policies. Its mission is to create and promote environments that make it accessible, safe, and convenient for people to integrate physical activity into their daily lives. The coalition focuses on policy, systems, and environmental changes. Coalition partners include community leaders, practitioners, and advocates who meet quarterly the second Monday of the month from 2:30-4:30 pm.
Working to create a transportation system that provides safe and convenient facilities for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users in all transportation and development projects. Community leaders, practitioners, and advocates also work to increase connectivity of pedestrian and bicycle systems.
A collaborative effort among community leaders, practitioners, advocates, and local governments in Ramsey County working to advance the coalition's vision of a connected and safe transportation and recreational bicycle and pedestrian network in Ramsey County and the entire region.
Engages the community and shares information that supports the Coalition's work in incorporating Complete Street / Corridor concepts into transportation policies and practices.
Distributes current information to support community leaders, practitioners, and advocates in their work to create physically active friendly communities. The digest includes current news, funding opportunities, webinars, research, best practices, conferences, and events on active living, physical activity, active transportation, the built environment, policies, physical inactivity, health implications and disparities. The coalition sends out the digest about twice a month depending upon the time sensitivity of the information. View past digests on the resource page.
An umbrella for coalitions to form through connecting informal relationships, creating linkages between communities, and transforming systems through the pioneering spirit of collaboration, communication, and coordination. The coalition is working with Mn/DOT and Met Council to establish a commitment for coordination and planning of a safe and efficient biking and walking system in the metro area and throughout Minnesota. The Multimodal Transportation Coalition is also working within specific transportation corridors to organize community support for making improvements to biking and walking facilities to those critical roadways.
A collaborative effort among community leaders, practitioners, advocates, and local governments including Active Living Ramsey Communities!, White Bear Lake Bike/Walk Taskforce, City of White Bear Lake, Sierra Club, Fresh/Energy Complete Streets Coalition, Mahtomedi Area Green Initiative, MN DOT and many others. Together, they are advocating for the working with the MN DOT to create safe biking and walking facilities on Hwy's 61 and 96 in the Lake Links area.
Focuses on organizing residents from Arden Hills all the way down to St. Paul. Major construction projects are happening in coming years, and these communities have the opportunity to improve regional connectivity if improved bikeways and sidewalks are added to the plans. Join us to make a big difference for your community!
Helps improve safety and connectivity. Even though Central Avenue is a state highway (Hwy 65), the road also serves as a Main Street for Fridley, Spring Lake Park and Blaine. Pedestrians have been injured trying to cross the road, and tragically there was a death this past spring. Improving street crossings, sidewalks and bikeways is the only way to turn this Mean Street into a true Main Street. Join us today!
Expansion is underway from its existing location at Lake McCarron's County Park. Expansion to the south would connect Mississippi River and Sam Morgan Regional Trail within the City of St. Paul's Lower Landing Park. The National Park Service is providing technical support evaluating alignment alternative for extending the trail from Lake McCarron's County Park via bridge crossings at Hwy 36 and I-694 to Vadnais Snail Lakes Regional Park.
A construction timeline hasn't been set yet, so we have an opportunity to make a difference! Located on I-35E between University Avenue and Maryland Avenue in St. Paul, construction plans call for Cayuga, Pennsylvania Avenue and railroad bridges to be replaced. Existing Pennsylvania / I-35E interchange will be replaced with a new interchange at Cayuga Street. I-35E will be constructed along a new alignment and the roadway will have a lane of capacity added in each direction.

Go Ramsey Communities Mapping Portal
Your Journey to Healthy Living Starts Here!
Active Living Ramsey Communities, Ramsey County Parks and Recreation Department and St. Paul – Ramsey County Public Health have developed a public Web mapping portal designed to promote all the places and spaces for Ramsey County residents and visitors to be active within Ramsey County. The mapping portal is a resource for citizens, practitioners, and health care professionals to search and seek out information about parks, lakes, trails, and recreational facilities in Ramsey County. The goal of the Go Ramsey Communities mapping portal is to improve the overall health of the community by providing the tools to move the community to action.
The “Go Ramsey Communities” project was funded through the Statewide Health Improvement Plan (SHIP). It is a collaborative effort that involved members of the Active Living Ramsey Communities initiative, Ramsey County Parks and Recreation, Public Health, Public Works and Information Services Departments, Ramsey County GIS User Group and partnering municipal parks and recreation departments.

What is a Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB)? The League of American Bicyclists awards BFB status to corporations, organizations, associations, government agencies, or non-profits that actively promote bicycling for transportation, recreation, exercise, and sport. A BFB practices social responsibility by weaving bicycling into the business culture and gives employees the opportunity to be active stewards of their personal and environmental health through bicycling. Read the press release.
Active Living Ramsey Communities! and the Biking and Walking Team collaborated with 16 municipalities in Ramsey County to develop a shared bike facilities data model that resulted in a comprehensive bike facilities inventory. In addition to bike and pedestrian facilities the Connectivity Gaps maps identify important gaps that need to be connected.
Multiple agencies and jurisdiction use these maps for grant writing applications and planning bike facilities and connections.
