Pledge Of Allegiance

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

On January 10, 1998, the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary at their Fourth District Mid-Winter Conference, adopted a resolution requesting that Ramsey County Commissioners recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of their meeting day. Commissioners Rettman and Guerin introduced the resolution at the County Board Meeting of January 10. When Janice spoke to the Resolution, she stated that she believed that "it was a most fitting way to start our business day." The Board Manager surveyed the Metropolitan Counties and found that only Dakota County started their meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and have been doing so for 20 years. The City of Saint Paul also recites the Pledge at the beginning of their City Council Session. Janice would like to thank the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary for making the County aware of this oversight and for recommending that the Board adopt their Resolution. "The Pledge reminds us of how fortunate we are to live in this Country and how we, as elected officials, are responsible to the people and the laws of the land."
