On January 5, 1999, Janice was sworn in for her first full term. In his comments, Judge Finley described Janice as energetic and committed to her work. This energy and commitment from her days on District 10, the City Council and now the Board, have served her well. Following her swearing in, Janice said, "Our area of town is a very special place; and I’m not saying that the rest of the county isn’t special. Where there are families and neighborhoods, they become interchangeable. Lots of people give me advice and have contributed to this success. I’m a workaholic and I’m not going to change. I love the people I have the honor of representing. I listen to the people; they come first. I hope I never stop listening to the people. I listen to my heart, my head and my tummy—that’s my pledge; and I’m looking forward to the next four years."
