What are Treatment Goals?

Treatment goals are targeted areas residents need to work on before returning to the community. With a resident’s thoughts as well as input from his parents, probation officer, caseworker and a number of assessments (educational, psychological, chemical abuse, etc.) completed at BTT, an individualized treatment plan with treatment goals is developed.

What is the Treatment Team at BTT? What does it do?

The Treatment Team evaluates a person’s progress on their treatment goals. They also evaluate the resident's behavior within the program and achievement on contract work. The Treatment Team provides frequent feedback through scorecards, recognitions, fines, violations, contract talks, level requests, and Team Meeting. The Treatment Team makes decisions for level movements in a Team Meetings. The Treatment Team also hears any violations a resident might receive and sets consequences such as restrictions, loss of points, or added contract work.

What are contracts and what is their purpose?

Contracts are used to assist a resident in looking at specific areas of their life. Contracts relate to the level a resident is on and reflect their treatment goals.

What are some examples of contracts?
  • Past Criminal Behavior Contract
  • Values Contract
  • Victim-Perpetrator Cycle Contract
  • Pain & Grief in My Life Contract
  • Making Changes Contract
What's a Scorecard?

A scorecard gives residents a score for each period throughout the day so that they know how they are doing in the areas of conduct, effort, and achievement. The scorecard keeps track of the points they earn or spend.

What's the purpose of a Scorecard?
  • Help make positive changes in behavior, especially in attitude and achievement
  • Help a resident focus on their conduct, effort and achievement throughout the day
  • Creates a meaningful reward system that reinforces positive behavioral changes
  • Makes the connection between the feedback/reward system and behavior
  • Helps staff to objectively measure a resident’s progress
How are points awarded?
  • Effort: 1-3 points
  • Conduct: 1-3 points
  • Achievement: 1-3 points
What can you do with points?

Points can be spent on canteen supplies, hygiene supplies, phone calls, level requests and off-grounds activity.

What is recognition?

Residents earn recognitions when they accomplish a large goal, do a task well, help a peer out, or do something extra. Recognitions are given for completing a contract, making progress on a treatment goal, doing extra credit work in school, and for many other things. They are a compliment to residents! They are also used to help decide if a resident is ready to move to the next level.
