The RADIUS Program was created as a collaborative effort between AMICUS, Ramsey County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) and Ramsey County Probation to offer a residential program for girls within the metro area. RADIUS is based on research and best practices for a positive impact on girls' behaviors.
RADIUS starts with a 30-45 day detention-based, residential program at the JDC. This provides a secure environment for the girls and allows them to form relationships with supportive adults. After successfully completing the residential program, they are transitioned to the 8-week, community-based portion of the program.
RADIUS is focused on self-empowerment and self-discovery. It is a strength-based program that helps girls identify and apply their power and voice as individuals and as a group. The RADIUS goal is to provide a safe space, encouragement, structure and support for the girls to embrace their journey of self-discovery.
Girls are the fastest growing segment of the Juvenile Justice System. Girls more frequently experience significant issues, including teen pregnancy, sexual abuse, family issues, abusive relationships, eating disorders and depression. Girls respond when they establish relationships with others to feel safe, to share complicated issues, and to feel less isolated. Once they share with others, they often realize that they are not alone in their struggles.
AMICUS is a Minnesota organization with over 39 years of experience in improving public safety by helping inmates and ex-offenders through positive relationship-building an individualized transitional services.
