School Program

photo: pencil and handSaint Paul Public Schools District 625 (SPPS) provides teachers for the juvenile correctional system.  The teachers develop an educational program to meet the academic needs of the student.  The school program follows the academic guidelines set by the SPPS and the State of Minnesota.

The education program goal is to ease the student's return to school after leaving the Juvenile Detention Center (JDC).  GED instruction is available for students who choose not to return to school.

The JDC classroom is multi-age instead of single grade as found in traditional classrooms.  Students with special needs comprise the majority of the student population in the school program.  Each Pod has its own classroom for up to twelve students.  There is a computer lab available.

The school program addresses sexual education and relationships.  Every week, there is a speaker who talks on a wide variety of topics including Anatomy, Cancer, Sexual Development, Birth Control, Dating and Relationships, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Sexual Violence, Teen Scenarios, Parenting, and Communicating.
