Work Program

The Work Program is a short-term consequence program for boys and girls.  The Juvenile Court determines which of the three work programs is most appropriate:  7-day, 14-day or 30-day program.

There are numerous work experiences for the juveniles sentenced to the Work Program.  Shampooing carpets, painting, and garbage pickup at the Juvenile Detention Center are examples of Work Program responsibilities.  Laundry service and food service are two additional Work Programs.  The Work Program serves the community with St. Paul Parks and Recreation by providing trash collection and litter clean-up.

A behavior modification system is used to rate each resident's conduct, effort and achievement.  Rehabilitative programming is offered to Work Program residents.

The short-term consequence (work) programs were previously provided by other agencies.  Offering a Work Program at the JDC has saved money for Ramsey County taxpayers.
