Union Depot Free Dance Nights April 20, May 18 and June 15

Union Depot will host free Dance Nights April 20, May 18 and June 15 from 6:30-9 p.m. in the Waiting Room. Open to all ages, the April 20 event will feature salsa dancing with live music by Salsa del Sol. Free professional dance instruction will be available from 6:30-7 p.m. with instructor Denny Hukriede, with open dancing from 7-9 p.m. Green Mill Catering will host concessions with pizza and beverages available for purchase.

Severe Weather Awareness Week April 13-17

Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 13-17. Join Ramsey County Emergency Management and Homeland Security in preparing for severe weather season by reviewing safety and awareness tips each day this week:

  • Thursday, April 16 - Statewide Tornado Drill Day
    NOAA All Hazards Alert Radios, outdoor warning sirens and other alerting devices will sound twice to allow businesses, schools and families chances to practice their severe weather sheltering plans. Tornado safety information | Get Ready Gopher: Emergency Sirens
    • 1:45 p.m. - Simulated tornado warning to practice daytime emergency plans
    • 6:55 p.m. - Second simulated tornado warning to practice home and evening emergency plans
  • Friday, April 17 – Heat Waves
    Extreme heat causes more weather related deaths than any other weather threat. Learn about heat illness and ways to stay cool.

 

Walk to Stop Sexual Violence April 26

The “Out of Darkness Into the Light” annual walk to stop sexual violence will take place Sunday, April 26, 2015 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Anderson Center, on the Hamline University campus in Saint Paul. The walk, which honors survivors of sexual violence, is sponsored by SOS Sexual Violence Services and Hamline University. Advance registration is requested. The first 100 people to register at AskSOS@co.ramsey.mn.us will receive a free T-shirt. The theme of this year’s walk is “All for One & One for All.” April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

xt Steps on Economic Prosperity Efforts 

The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners has outlined next steps in a bold strategic plan to cultivate economic prosperity and eliminate concentrated poverty, following a year of data-driven analysis and research, staff workshops, and community discussions.  The strategic plan addresses structures, processes and programs across all county departments in a holistic attempt to provide opportunities for greater prosperity for all residents.

Courthouse Tours Available

Guided tours of the Ramsey Courthouse and St. Paul City Hall are open to the public every Monday except holidays from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Tours will be held on Tuesdays following holidays. Meet in front of Vision of Peace Statue on the first floor. Learn more about the building and its architectural style by listening to KFAI’s documentary on Art Deco.
