About Cross Country Ski Trails


Battle Creek Regional Park‐East

Ski through mature woods on over 6K of classic (no skating) trails, easier to more difficult. Access is available from the Lower Afton Road parking lot just east of McKnight Road.

Battle Creek Regional Park‐West

The Winthrop Street site was redeveloped to provide cross‐country enthusiasts with one of the premier facilities in the metropolitan area. This site has 1K of easier, 1.75K more difficult, and 7K most difficult classic and skate ski trail. Access is from the parking lot off Winthrop Street, just south of Upper Afton Road. This site also includes 4K of lighted trails.

Manitou Ridge Golf Course

Manitou Ridge has a 1K easier loop with a 4K full loop ranging from more difficult to most difficult classic and skate ski trails. The terrain is hilly and open. The site is located at the northeast corner of McKnight Road and I‐694. Access is from the Manitou Ridge Clubhouse parking lot off McKnight Road.

Snail/Grass Lakes

The Snail/Grass area of Vadnais‐Snail Lakes Regional Park consists of a 2K north loop and a total of 5K ski trails ranging from easier to more difficult classic (no skating) two‐way trails. These sites have both wooded and marshland characteristics. Snail Lake is located approximately 1 mile north of I‐694 on Victoria Street, then right on Snail Lake Boulevard. Trail access is from the large picnic pavilion parking lot off Snail Lake Boulevard.

Vadnais/Sucker Lakes

The Vadnais/Sucker Lakes area of Vadnais‐Snail Lakes Regional Park includes two different two‐way classic (no skating) ski trails. One is a 3K easier to more difficult loop around Sucker Lake. The east side of the lake includes moderate hills. The second trail is a 4.3K easier two‐way loop on the east side of Vadnais Lake. Areas along both of the trails are primarily wooded with views of the lakes. Both trails are accessed from two separate parking lots on County Road F.

Tamarack Nature Center

Tamarack Nature Center provides two classic (no skating) trails, one 4K more difficult loop, and a 3K easier loop. There is also a 1K practice loop. Ski through beautiful prairie, woodland and marsh with abundant wildlife. A visitor center with restroom facilities and ski rental is available during open hours, Monday‐Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Sunday 12:00 noon – 5:00 p.m. Access is from the Nature Center parking lot off Otter Lake Road
