Lead is a toxic metal that was used for many years in products used in and around our homes. It can be found in the air, soil and paint of many homes and buildings built before 1978. The use of lead in products in the U.S. has significantly reduced. However, products that contain lead still exist and may be a health hazard. Exposure to too much lead can cause serious health problems. Lead is part of our world today, but it is never a normal part of our bodies.
