**ALL YARD WASTE SITES ARE NOW OPEN**

Why to Use
Leaves, grass clippings, trees and other types of plant waste are banned from the trash.  Soft plant waste such as leaves and grass are turned into compost for residents to take at no charge at the County Yard Waste Sites in the spring.  Trees, shrubs, branches and other woody plants are ground into mulch for residents to take at no charge.  It is also used as a fuel source to create electricity and supply heating and cooling to downtown Saint Paul and neighboring communities.

How to Use

  • The sites are free and open to Ramsey County residents only.
  • A photo ID is required as proof of residency because this program is paid for by Ramsey County taxpayers.
  • Bags of yard waste must be emptied on site and taken with you.
  • Biodegradable bags are not accepted because their presence in the pile invites non-biodegradable bags.

Please Note

  • No waste from commercial lawn care, landscape or tree services are accepted.
  • Commercial operators and out-of-county residents can use commercial yard waste sites that accept residential and commercial yard waste.
  • Dumping of materials when sites are closed is NOT allowed and is punishable with a fine of up to $700 and/or 90 days in jail.

Emerald Ash Borer
Due to the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) quarantine, Ramsey County residents cannot transport ash trees, including ash limbs, branches, logs and untreated ash lumber with the bark attached, outside of Ramsey and Hennepin counties. This quarantine also applies to firewood of any hardwood species.  To remain in compliance with the quarantine, some trash haulers no longer offer tree waste collection as part of their service to residents.  However, residents have other options such as hiring a commercial tree or yard cleanup service to collect their tree waste.  Ramsey County residents can also bring tree waste to a Ramsey County yard waste site.

Ramsey County residents who live in zip codes 55103, 55104, 55108, 55113, and 55117 are strongly encouraged to take ash limbs, branches, and logs to the Ramsey County Midway Yard Waste Site to prevent spread of EAB to other parts of the County.

EAB was discovered in St. Paul in 2009.  EAB is an insect that destroys green, black and white ash trees by interrupting the water and nutrition carrying capacity of the tree.
