AFTER you have received your Credential of Ordination or Credentials of Licensing, you are required to file them with one of the counties in Minnesota prior to performing marriage ceremonies. This can be done by mail or walk-in.
Requirements
- EFFECTIVE August 1, 2009: You must be 21 in order to perform a marriage in Minnesota.
- Persons authorized to perform marriage ceremonies in Minnesota are required to assure that the couple has obtained a Minnesota marriage license and that the individuals appearing before them are the persons named on the marriage license.
Mail Filing
Please complete the following steps to file your credentials by mail.
- Send a copy of your license OR Certificate of Ordination (Do not send your original record)
- Complete and enclose Certificate of Filing Form | Certificate of Filing Form (pdf)
- Enclose filing fee | $5.00
- Payment accepted: check or money order payable to Ramsey County
- Mail to:

- Once we have filed your record, we will send you a copy showing where you are recorded and instructions.
Walk-in Filing
Please complete the following steps to file your credentials in our office.
- Bring a copy of your license OR Certificate of Ordination
- Pay filing fee | $5.00.
- Payment accepted: cash, check or money order (we DO NOT accept credit or debit cards)
- Once we have filed your record, we will send you a copy showing where you are recorded and instructions.
