Sexual assault is any sexual activity involving a person who does not or cannot consent.  Sexual assault is an act of violence.  This can be obvious, as in an assault in which a weapon, physical force or a threat is used.  In other situations, the violence is more subtle, as when a position of authority, age, size, or status is used to trick, scare or manipulate the victim.  Examples include:

  • Rape
  • Sexual Contact (touching, grabbing, fondling)
  • Non-Contact Offenses (obscene phone calls, exposing)
  • Incest
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Sexual Exploitation of Clients by Professionals
  • Marital Rape
  • Pornography and Prostitution
  • Same-Sex Assault
