Precious Metal

A precious metal license is required when any precious metal dealer engages in the business of buying secondhand items containing precious metals. A precious metal dealer license shall authorize the precious metal dealer to transact business only at the location or locations designated in the license.

Auctioneer

An Auctioneer’s License is required by any individual conducting the business of an auctioneer in the state of Minnesota.

An applicant must be:

18 years of age or older
A resident of the county they are applying in for at least six months prior to the application
Granted reciprocity by the state of Minnesota, if a non-resident

Transient Merchant

A Transient Merchant license is required by anyone who engages in any temporary or transient business in Ramsey County, selling goods, wares and merchandise, either in one locality or in traveling from place to place in the state.

Other News & Information:

Ramsey County has statutory authority over every city in the county in terms of issuing licenses for the above three professions (please see Chapters 325, 329, and 330 of Minnesota Statutory Law for more information). In other words, come first to Ramsey County for your license, then check with the city in which you're planning to do business to see if they have any further licensing requirements.
