Have You Recently Bought a Home and You Occupy it? Did you file for Homestead Classification?

Homestead is a program to reduce property taxes for owners who occupy their home and are a Minnesota resident.

Property owners can qualify for this tax reduction if they own and occupy their house as their main place of residence or are a relative of an owner living in the owner's house.

If you purchase and occupy the property by December 1st of any year, and make application by December 15th, the following year's property tax will reflect the homestead rate, if you qualify.
