The Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority owns and manages 103 acres of property in Ramsey County.
Six and one-half miles of this right of way, extending from Kellogg Boulevard in St. Paul to Beam Avenue in Maplewood, was acquired by RCRRA from Burlington Northern (BN) in December 1992. It was acquired to preserve the property as an option for a future light rail transit line. RCRRA has entered into agreements with the City of St. Paul and Ramsey County (Parks and Recreation) to provide for the planning and development of the corridor for joint light rail transit and recreational trail use.
Less than one-mile extends from the Hennepin/Ramsey County Line to Walnut Street in Roseville. It was acquired by RCRRA from Burlington Northern Santa Fe in June 2003. It was acquired to preserve the property as an option for future transit.
The remaining 11.5 acres were purchased in 2005 to develop the Union Depot concourse to a multi-modal terminal. This property is bordered by Kellogg Boulevard to the north. The land is currently used for commuter parking.
The RCRRA has adopted a Real Estate Management Plan, which provides management guidelines for the property. This plan is available for download: Plan and Figure A
