Newer landfills can be designed to capture gases that are created as waste decomposes. Some landfills capture this gas, called "landfill gas," and burn it to produce electricity. As part of our research on solid waste, we asked Foth and Van Dyke, consulting engineers, to compare the waste-to-energy recovery of landfills and resource recovery facilities.
