Community Alerts

Stay informed and safe when there is an emergency

CodeRed Logo

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with CodeRED to provide county-wide community alerts and notifications.  CodeRED is used to send geographically targeted communications during critical incidents.  Localized or county-wide messages are sent, dependent upon need:

  • Lost, abducted, or missing children or vulnerable adults
  • Increases in crime (e.g., crime alerts for neighborhoods and businesses)
  • Bio-terrorism and hazards materials or chemical spills
  • Sex (predatory) offender  notifications
  • Natural disasters
  • Fires and evacuations
  • Pandemics
  • Other

The CodeRED system uses your address (geographic location) to allow targeted messaging.  Ramsey County residents are encouraged to enter their contact information for home and work addresses, along with their landline and mobile phone numbers and email address.  This will ensure alerts and notifications are received when needed.

No one should assume their contact information is in the database.  While the CodeRED database contains some basic phonebook information, there is no guarantee your information is in the database, especially if you have unlisted phone numbers, mobile phones, or voice over Internet provider (VOIP).  If your contact information is not in the database, you will not receive alerts.

Sign up is free, quick, secure, and confidential.  To register, complete the Community Enrollment Online Form by clicking on the CodeRED logo.

CodeRED Mobile Alert app

Designed to keep citizens informed and aware, no matter where they are, the CodeRED Mobile Alert app taps into the national CodeRED Emergency Notification System and alerts iPhone and Android subscribers located with the reach of a given notification. The app is geo-aware so no matter where the user is when an alert is issued, subscribers will receive notifications that affect them - directly to their mobile device.

For more information on the free download for iPhone and Android subscribers, or to download the CodeRED Mobile Alert app, visit the Mobile App site.

Opting Out.  By law a government agency can call any phone number.  For those who chose not to be alerted to safety messages from the Sheriff's Office, or our safety partners in Ramsey County, it is possible to be placed on a do not call list.  All that is required is that you acknowledge that you accept the responsibility for your decision.  Download the Waiver Form (pdf).

Caller ID.  When you see the following displayed, you will know the call is from the Sheriff's Office via CodeRED.  If you would like to hear the last message delivered to your phone, simply dial the number back.

  • Emergency Notifications will display 1-866-419-5000 or Emergency Comm
  • General Notifications will display 1-855-969-4636 or ECN Community

Privacy.  Your contact information remains private and will only be used for community notifications.
