About the Medicine Collection Program
Unwanted, expired or unused medicines can pose problems for public safety and the environment. The storing of unwanted medicines can lead to drug abuse or poisoning, and medicines flushed down the drain or disposed of in the trash can harm the environment.
A solution to this problem is the metro area's first free year-round medicine collection program started in September of 2011 by a partnership of the Saint Paul - Ramsey Public Health Department and the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office. Ramsey County residents can, at no cost, safely dispose of unwanted, expired, or unused medicine.
Safely dispose of unwanted medicines year-round for free at two public drop boxes:
- Law Enforcement Center - 425 Grove Street, Saint Paul
- Sheriff's Patrol Station - 1411 Paul Kirkwold Drive, Arden Hills
- Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (closed on Saturday, Sunday, and government holidays)
Accepted Items
All medicines from households are accepted. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins, supplements and pet medicines. Items must be placed in a clear bag that can be sealed.
Not Accepted
NO needles, syringes, lancets or used epinephrine pens. These are accepted for FREE at Ramsey County's year-round hazardous waste collection site at 5 Empire Drive, Saint Paul.
No medicines from businesses, healthcare facilities, long-term care facilities, pharmacies, doctor's offices or veterinary clinics.
