Each season comes with various weather conditions that may hinder the use of areas in and around Ramsey County lakes. Staying aware of these special restrictions and closures can help keep you safe.
Early Season Ice Advice:
The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office is asking citizens to use caution on all frozen bodies of water due to thin ice conditions. Freezing and thawing and warmer temperatures all have the potential to create hazardous conditions on the ice. Even with precautions, be aware that being on the ice this time of year involves an increased level of risk and the ice is never 100% safe.
On December 2, 2013, the Minnesota DNR issued an ice warning for aerated lakes in Ramsey County and throughout the state. The lakes impacted in Ramsey County include: Beaver, Bennett, Birch, Como, Gilfillan, Island, Loeb, Otter, Owasso, Pleasant, Silver (East Silver), Silver (Columbia Heights), Shoreview Community Center Pond, Vadnais, and Willow. More details are contained in the DNR News Release.
Special restrictions and closures can be issued at any time by federal, state, or local government. As the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office becomes aware of any special restrictions or closures, this information will be updated online.
