Firearms Safety Training

About Firearms Safety Training

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), provides youth firearm safety training courses.

The purpose of this training course is to teach participants the safe handling of firearms and hunter responsibility. Upon completion, youth receive a firearm certification.

Firearms safety certificate training may be required by law. Visit the Department of Natural Resources website for current Firearms Safety Certificate Training Requirements

DNR Firearm Certification is required of anyone born after December 31, 1979 to purchase a Hunting License in Minnesota.  Students must be 11 years of age or older to attend the class.

Class Schedule

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office offers classes throughout the year. Class dates and times throughout the state are listed on the DNR website approximately two months prior to the class.

Class sizes are limited, offered on a first come, first serve basis, and subject to change. Details about the classes are found on the DNR website
