Description
The goal of the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) is to ensure its participants will be financially better off working than not working.
Funding through the Federal Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) block grant provides eligible families with cash and food assistance while enrolled. Sixty months is the lifetime limit for participants in all but extenuating circumstances, such as serious illness.
To achieve effectiveness and excellence, Workforce Solutions and Ramsey County Human Services, in partnership with others, are linking employment services, support services, and financial assistance services into an integrated service delivery system. Approximately 6,000 Ramsey County MFIP participants are served through the network of employment service providers, with locations in Saint Paul and suburban Ramsey County.
Services Available
To assist families in securing employment, which is essential for economic success, MFIP participants are required to participate in Employment Services (MFIP-ES). Each participant works with a job counselor to develop an individualized plan. The participant’s plan may include vocational assessment, job search and placement assistance, work experience, training, day care, and transportation funding.
